At Rock Creek Elementary a group of our amazing students provide "Rocket Fuel" for our staff. Rocket Fuel includes that necessary dose of coffee, hot chocolate, and tea which helps fuel our staff to have a great week and power through the day. They take custom orders, process orders, learn how to make the orders, and deliver the orders to staff. This is truly empowering students for success and is showcasing how all of our students can take on meaningful leadership roles within our building that truly make a difference for them and our outstanding staff.
Kelsie Ballmann, one of our teachers who oversees the program, stated "Rocket Fuel is one of my favorite things to do with my students or should I say 'baristas'! It brings both students and staff JOY! I love being able to work on many academic and social skills in a real life way. I hope the skills they work on are a building block for their future jobs. It is a great way for my students to show leadership at Rock Creek Elementary."
On the weeks that we do Rocket Fuel at Rock Creek Elementary, staff get to submit orders by Wednesday of the week. They get everything organized by Friday morning. Then the students, Mrs. Ballmann, and some support staff members assist to make the orders and deliver them. The smiles and joys are contagious and it is an impactful opportunity for our student leaders while delivering infectious joy to our staff. This type of program reminds our entire staff on how we work in innovative ways to ensure all students reach success and aligns to our mission of "If we believe that Rock Creek Students can achieve, Rock Creek students will succeed!"
