Missouri Assessment Program (MAP)- What is this test?

NWEA MAP

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level Assessments evaluate students' progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards. Grade-Level Assessments provide important information that contributes to decisions concerning individual students, groups of students, and educational programs. Assessments are given in the subject areas of ELA -English Language Arts (grades 3-8), Mathematics (grades 3-8), and Science (grades 5 and 8).

The grade-level assessments include multiple types of questions or items:

  • Selected Response (multiple choice) items composed of a question followed by a series of possible responses.

Students must select the correct response or responses.

  • Constructed Response or Short Text items require students to supply an appropriate response rather than making a selection from a list of choices.

  • Performance Tasks/Events allow students to work through more complicated items using real-world scenarios.

  • Technology Enhanced items make use of technology in the presentation of the item, the ways in which students respond, or both. For example, students might listen to a story and then drag and drop labels into a diagram, or click on specific parts of a text to provide a response.

After testing, your child will receive an Individual Student Report (ISR) that will give you information about his or her achievement in terms of the content and skills assessed by the MAP Grade-Level Assessment at his or her grade level. Your child's Individual Student Report (ISR), will include an Achievement Level, which will describe his or her performance as Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, or Advanced. The report will also include a short description of the knowledge and skills that are typically demonstrated by students in each Achievement Level. This report will not be made available to school's until sometime next Fall. For this year's 5th graders, the reports will be handed out by their middle school.

If you have questions about the MAP test, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Katherine Reynolds-Sandstrom, School Test Coordinator.

How You Can Help Your Child:

Headphones:

All students will need a working pair of headphones that can be left at school. This is an item that was listed on the school supply list. Very soon, students will begin practicing on the testing platform. HEADPHONES ARE REQUIRED! Please ask your student(s) if they currently have a working pair of headphones at school. If not, please send in a pair. Headphones do not need to be expensive at all. I do not suggest sending in Air Pods, Bluetooth capable or other expensive headphones. We have a limited supply of headphones students can borrow, if the cost is a concern.

Healthy Habits:

Please continue or establish strong healthy routines at home for bedtime and eating healthy breakfasts before testing days.

Attendance:

Students perform better and give more effort when they can take the test with their teacher and class at the scheduled time. Please note our calendar for our testing times. Make sure students arrive at school on time so they have time to settle in and be in the right mindset to do their best. However, students will not perform well if they are sick. Please keep a sick child home. We will make up test sessions when the child returns to school.

MAP HOUSE SYSTEM

Mrs. Monahan, Mrs. Mueller and our Student Council(STUCO) have created this year's MAP House System- You’re a Gem. Each year this House system is created with fresh ideas from the Student Council. This year’s system is made of 6 houses and brand new challenges. This House System is a way to build some fun into MAP test preparation and to increase student participation and effort throughout the month through testing. Included below are further details.

House System Details:

  • Each House is composed of a variety of students 3rd -5th grades.

  • 5th Grade Student Council members serve as the Head of House along with the sponsoring teachers.

  • Houses will compete and work to earn points in various ways.

Earning Points:

  • Wearing team color shirts on Friday’s.

  • Playing Blooket/Kahoot- in class

  • Having headphones for MAP practice testing and technology class.

  • Students will also earn points through practice sessions, break out rooms, and other team challenges.

    • The House Sorting and first team challenge was held on Friday, April 5th. Houses competed in their first challenge in a friendly game of Family Feud focused around great MAP testing strategies. Earning points has begun!

Learn More:

  • Find out more about each specific House below. (Thank you to our STUCO members for creating these characteristics.)

  • Ask your child which House they were assigned, check in with them as time goes on to see how the House is doing, and help encourage the excitement for your child.

We can’t wait to see students soar on the MAP test by showing all they can do and the growth they have made over the course of the year, while having fun in the process.

Thanks for your ongoing support of your child’s best!
