Missouri Assessment Program (MAP)

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level Assessments evaluate students' progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards. Grade-Level Assessments provide important information that contributes to decisions concerning individual students, groups of students, and educational programs. Assessments are given in the subject areas of ELA - English Language Arts (grades 3-8), Mathematics (grades 3-8), and Science (grades 5 and 8).

The grade-level assessments include multiple types of questions or items:

  • Selected Response (multiple choice) items composed of a question followed by a series of possible responses. Students must select the correct response or responses.

  • Constructed Response or Short Text items require students to supply an appropriate response rather than making a selection from a list of choices.

  • Performance Tasks/Events allow students to work through more complicated items using real-world scenarios.

  • Technology Enhanced items make use of technology in the presentation of the item, the ways in which students respond, or both. For example, students might listen to a story and then drag and drop labels into a diagram, or click on specific parts of a text to provide a response.

After testing, your child will receive an Individual Student Report (ISR) that will give you information about his or her achievement in terms of the content and skills assessed by the MAP Grade-Level Assessment at his or her grade level. Your child's Individual Student Report (ISR), will include an Achievement Level, which will describe his or her performance as Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, or Advanced. The report will also include a short description of the knowledge and skills that are typically demonstrated by students in each Achievement Level. This report will not be made available to school's until sometime next Fall. For this year's 5th graders, the reports will be handed out by their middle school.

If you have questions about the MAP test, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Jill Nolte, School Test Coordinator. JNolte@fz.k12.mo.us

How You Can Help Your Child:

Headphones:

All students will need a working pair of headphones that can be left at school. This is an item that was listed on the school supply list. Very soon, students will begin practicing on the testing platform. HEADPHONES ARE REQUIRED! Please ask your student(s) if they currently have a working pair of headphones at school. If not, please send in a pair. Headphones do not need to be expensive at all. I do not suggest sending in Air Pods, Bluetooth capable or other expensive headphones. We have a limited supply of headphones students can borrow, if the cost is a concern.

Healthy Habits:

Please continue or establish strong healthy routines at home for bedtime and eating healthy breakfasts before testing days.

Attendance:

Students perform better and give more effort when they can take the test with their teacher and class at the scheduled time. Please note our calendar for our testing times. Make sure students arrive to school on time so they have time to settle in and be in the right mindset to do their best. However, students will not perform well if they are sick. Please keep a sick child home. We will make up test sessions when the child returns to school.

MAP HOUSE SYSTEM

Mrs. Monahan, Mrs. Mueller and our Student Council have created this year's MAP House System. This is a way to build some fun into MAP test preparation and to increase student participation and effort throughout this month. Each House is comprised of a variety of students 3rd -5th grades, 5th Grade Student Council members serving as Head of House, and sponsoring teachers. On Friday, the House Sorting and first team challenge was held. Houses competed in a relay race for their first challenge. Ask your child which House they were assigned. As easy way to earn House Points is for each student to wear their House color on Fridays. They will earn points through practice sessions, break out rooms and other team challenges.

Learn more about each House below. Thank you to our STUCO members for creating these characteristics.
