Progress South's Leader in Me journey is moving along, and we are thrilled to share some exciting updates with our community. To ensure we are providing the very best leadership development for our students, our next step as a staff is to participate in "Core 3" training this summer.
What is Core 3?
Core 3 is a specialized phase of the Leader in Me professional development framework. While earlier phases focus on foundational leadership principles and culture, Core 3 shifts the focus toward highly effective instruction. It provides our teachers and staff with advanced tools to integrate leadership habits directly into academic lessons, helping students take ownership of their learning, set personal academic goals, and build the life-ready skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Defining our Focus: WIGS and PIGS
As we continue this journey, you will hear us talk about our goals using Leader in Me terminology:
WIG - Wildly Important Goal, or WIG, is the primary overarching goal that is critical to our success. It's the "must-win" objective that requires collective focus and energy to achieve. This year, our WIG was related to all students reaching their growth target(s) on the iReady assessments.
PIG - Pretty Important Goal, or PIG, acts as a supporting milestone. These are smaller, essential goals that help us practice the habits and behaviors necessary to ultimately reach our WIG. Next year, our PIG will focus on increasing and maintaining excellent student attendance.
Building-Wide Focus: Community Engagement
In addition to our PIGs and WIG, as a building, we have set a major goal to increase family and community engagement. We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is vital for student success.
Part of this commitment involves gathering useful, honest feedback from you to drive our decision-making. We want to ensure that the activities, events, and strategies we plan for next year are aligned with the needs and values of our families.
Your Feedback Drives Our Success: The MRA Survey
We use the MRA (Measurable Results Assessment) to gather this vital feedback from students in grades 3-5, our staff, and our families.
Students in grades 3-5 are taking the MRA survey within their library time this year.
This data directly guides our "Lighthouse Team" (our leadership committee) in planning the future of our school.
We are so close to our goal, and we need your help!
So far, we have heard from 150 families. Our goal this year is to get that crucial input from 200 families.
We have some exciting initiatives to celebrate hitting our milestones!
100 Families - each grade level enjoys music at lunch!
150 Families - each grade level enjoys music at lunch AND an extra recess!
200 Families - each grade level enjoys music at lunch, an extra recess, AND a popsicle! (we are only 50 families away right now)!

The survey is quick, easy, and incredibly impactful. Please help us cross the finish line by April 30th.
